A British Council exhibition.
This exhibition was shown in Pakistan to mark the 50th Anniversary of Independence and focussed on the developments in British sculptrure from 1965. It comprised 45 works, all drawn from the British Council collection, and opened with the work of Anthony Caro, Phillip King, Eduardo Paolozzi, William Tucker and William Turnbull which challenged the oidea of sculpture being object oriented and plinth bound. The mood of the exhibition was upbeat and lively with works made from industrial metals, copper, brass, fibreglass, plaster, found objects, photography and the whole exhibition colourful, with works painted in a range of media from yacht varnish to pure pigment. A catalogue with an essay by Greg Hilty, and biographical and bibliographical notes on each artist was published to accompany the tour. ISBN 0 863357 374 5

Fibreglass
A light and durable material made from glass filaments embedded in plastic that can be moulded, stained or painted.

Sculpture
A three-dimensional work of art. Such works may be carved, modelled, constructed, or cast. Sculptures can also be described as assemblage, in the round, relief, and made in a huge variety of media. Contemporary practice also includes live elements, as in Gilbert & George 'Living Sculpture' as well as broadcast work, radio or sound sculpture.

Varnish
A liquid preparation that when spread and allowed to dry on a surface forms a hard lustrous typically transparent coating. The covering or glaze given by the application of varnish.
