THE ARTIST'S HAND III

1979 Henry Moore (1898 − 1986)

Moore made two lithographs of hands in 1973 (P1889; P1890) and five in 1978 of the chemist and Nobel prizewinner Professor Dorothy Hodgkin, whose fortitude and courage in overcoming her arthritic condition whilst carrying out deliocate experiemenst on x-ray crystallography had amazed him. He returned to his own hands a year later with two etchings and three lithographs for The Artist’s Hand Portfolio. The two etchings were printed by J C Editions and the three lithographs by Curwen Prints Ltd, all in editions, published by Raymond Spencer Company Ltd in 1980.
