SICKERT AND HIS CIRCLE
A former resident of Bedford, Sickert was taught by Whistler and Degas. A flamboyant character and prolific artist, Sickert was and continues to be one of the most influential British artists of the 20th Century.
The formation of The Camden Town Group, under the guidance of Sickert, in 1911, saw many of the key figures in British 20th century art band together. This exhibition features works by artists who both influenced Sickert and in turn artists whom Sickert influenced such as Spencer Gore, Harold Gilman and William Ratcliffe. In recent years Sickert's character has been reappraised with the claim that he was Jack the Ripper.
